SCAZT 2.1 Describe the use and function of identity intelligence across IDPs
Exam Objective — SCOR v2.0, objective 6.7

(also SCAZT objective 2.1)

Objective 6.7 names seven parts of Duo in a zero-trust architecture. The previous lesson covered the decision itself: MFA, Device Trust, health checks and Adaptive Access policies. This one covers the other three: SSO, Trust Monitor and CII. Walking out of it, you can:

  • Tell the two roads into Duo apart, Duo SSO and the Authentication Proxy, and say which checks each one can run
  • Explain why Duo SSO with Active Directory depends on the Authentication Proxy, and what that means when the proxy is down
  • Read AMR values in a Duo SSO assertion, and say what they can’t prove
  • Say what happened to Trust Monitor, and what Cisco Identity Intelligence does differently
Licensing

Duo SSO is in Duo Essentials and up, Cisco Identity Intelligence in Duo Advantage and Premier, and the Duo Network Gateway in Premier. Duo Free has none of them. The Authentication Proxy is software you install; what it can do depends on the account’s edition. The device checks in the opening example are edition-dependent too; the previous lesson has the table.

Overview

Picture one user with two logins, both behind Duo and assigned the same Duo policy requirements. In the morning they open the expense app in a browser. In the afternoon they connect to the VPN. The policy requires Duo Desktop and a firewall check. The first login gets that check. The second never does, and no setting in the policy changes that.

The reason is the road each login takes to reach Duo. Cisco Duo in Zero Trust: MFA, Device Trust & Adaptive Access Policies built the access decision. This lesson follows it out to the applications, which is where SSO fits, and then looks at who watches the results over time, which is where Trust Monitor used to sit and Cisco Identity Intelligence (CII) now does.

Knowledge Check

No grade, no timer. Wrong picks turn coral — change your answer until everything's green.

1 · A user signs in to the corporate VPN, whose headend uses the Duo Authentication Proxy as its RADIUS server. The Duo policy requires Duo Desktop and a firewall check. What happens to the device check?

Duo Desktop reports posture to the browser-based Duo Prompt. The proxy road carries RADIUS or LDAP with no browser in the path, so browser-only checks such as Duo Desktop posture and Verified Duo Push don't apply there. Posture for full-tunnel VPN users is usually handled elsewhere, for example by ISE.

2 · A SAML application reads the AMR values in Duo SSO's assertion and wants to allow passkeys but refuse Duo Push. Can it?

Duo SSO sends the same AMR values, mfa, pop, user, for a push and a passkey. The application can deny access after an SMS passcode (mfa, sms, otp) but can't enforce passkey-only access from AMR; that belongs in Duo's Authentication Methods policy.

3 · Duo SSO uses Active Directory as its primary authentication source, and the only Authentication Proxy is stopped for maintenance. What stops working?

Duo's Authentication Proxy reference warns that stopping or restarting the proxy causes RADIUS, LDAP and Duo Single Sign-On user logins to fail until it's running again. With an AD source, Duo SSO's password check runs through the proxy, so both roads depend on it.

4 · Your team relied on Duo Trust Monitor to surface anomalous logins. What changed in July 2026?

Duo's Trust Monitor page states that the feature was removed from the Duo Admin Panel in July 2026 and its API reaches end of support on January 31, 2027. Cisco Identity Intelligence replaces it and extends beyond Duo's own data.

You just proved the method works — the rest of the mountain is waiting. All-Access unlocks every lesson in every course — $489/yr, with $647 of founders bonuses while the window is open.
